The iconic glow of “Snowy Farms” is a spectacle, especially as the sunlight floods  the room through wooden blinds.

Sheffield-born George Hamilton Constantine (1878-1967) is best known for his watercolour landscapes with figures and seascapes or marine art. Educated at Sheffield School of Art, Constantine also studied restoration of pictures at the Courtauld Institute and was involved in paintings conservation at Chatsworth house, the stately home of the Devonshire family.
A member of he Sheffield Society of artists exhibiting at The Royal Academy in 1916, The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and Manchester Art Gallery among other other notable venues, the artist also trained in painting restoration at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. In his home-city of Sheffield, Constantine became Director of Graves Art Gallery in 1938 as well as acting as Honorary secretary of The Sheffield Society of artists throughout the 1930s.

His work displays a particular attentiveness to nature and the places he felt connected to.

This pair, are a wonderful representation of ordinary simplicity which the artist enjoyed returning to, time and time again. Most probably this pair of watercolours feature his family farm near Sheffield, identifiable from the same pair of horses appearing in a number of Constantine’s paintings, who lived there.
