Nature-inspired treasures for the season of giving

Nature-inspired treasures for the season of giving

Over the past few years it seems, the festive season has arrived unannounced. What has kept the mind from losing its way fully, following a series of unprecedented experiences was (and is still,) absorbing the serenity of nature and being healed by gifts from the land, sea and sky. Selected, are three of our newcomer favourites currently being kept in view inside our home. In no particular order, we begin..

Something from the air..

Recent finds have presented themselves as worlds in miniature. An antique collage with Studies of  Butterflies, fruits and birds has entered (albeit gracefully,) the shop catalogue. Each representation brings a layer or more of joy and an insight into the natural world. Pausing to conjure up for a few moments, a woman in Victorian times, pasting pictures inspired by her personal interests and fascinations is part of what’s so special about the piece. Imagined, is the comfort and solace enjoyed from the very action of making and possibly of the pleasures had over generations, while immersed in the details.

 ..from the land

The celebration continues with a pair of oil on board paintings featuring Still life flowers in a vase signed by Buysse.

Whenever blooms are brought into the home we are filled with sheer delight whatever the season. Hung on a favourite feature wall, or amidst prized kitchenware or potteries displayed on shelves, the joyfulness of the subject could win over a space. Presented in original gilt frames, these representations are small marvels for admirers of pretty things.

..from the sea..

Rising to the surface from crystal clear waters, we have been charmed by this Vintage Tropical Sweetlips paperweight (1989) from the iconic Royal Crown Derby - one of the oldest manufacturers of Porcelain (since c.1750.)

This decorative fish balanced on a shell and weighing an little over 200g, ensnares the best of the day’s light, more so in the late Autumn/wintertime, when the glow is welcomed and longed for almost, as a necessity. Turn the paperweight around and you’ll see it bears the Royal Crown Derby mark with gold stopper. Truly a piece to delight whatever the occasion and a wonderful addition to our smallest treasures for unique gifting this season.
